  • We are pleased to introduce Dr. Sandra Thomas as the next Executive Director of the ECHO Joint Agreement, effective July 1, 2018. Dr. Thomas’ experience, and credentials are a great match for what our Board of Directors identified as necessary to meet ECHO JA’s future goals and challenges.

    To ensure a smooth transition, Dr. Thomas has scheduled time to work with our Executive Director, Dr. Lea Anne Frost, as well as to participate in our current searches to fill principals’ positions and the CSBO position vacated by Mr. Starck-King.  Dr. Thomas looks forward to meeting and working with stakeholders as we continue our commitment to educating and serving our students and their families.     Dr. Sandra L. Thomas  

    Biographical Information 

     

    Dr. Sandra L. Thomas is the former Executive Administrator to the CEO at Southland College Prep Charter High School/Matteson School District 162. She was aslo the former Superintendent of Schools in Country Club Hills School District 160.  Dr. Thomas served as the Director of Special Education and was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Schools at Joliet Public Schools District 86 in which she served for eleven years. Dr. Thomas is child-centered and has worked toward continuous improvement. She operates from a collaborative perspective with all stakeholders to provide students with a 21st Century world-class education second to none, in an environment that fosters innovation, respect and intellectual inquiry. Dr. Thomas has a rich history in education spanning over 20 years and has worked in school districts with enrollment ranging from 1,300 to 13,000 students at both the K-12 and the university level. Dr. Thomas has been an adjunct professor for the Educational Leadership programs at University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. 

    Dr. Thomas received her undergraduate degree and Master’s degree from Aurora University.  She holds a Type 75 administrative certificate with a Superintendent’s endorsement, Chief School Business Official endorsement as well as Special Education Director’s endorsement. Dr. Thomas obtained an Educational Specialist degree and Doctoral degree in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University.  

    Dr. Thomas has been a featured guest panelist at various state and national conferences including the 2017 Joint Annual Conference supported by IASB/IASA/IASBO, and the prestigious Illinois ESSA Conference. Throughout her career, Dr. Thomas has had the opportunity to supervise and mentor principals as well as teachers, related service staff members, and student teachers. Dr. Thomas is a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and numerous education associations. She is passionate about visionary/servant leadership and making certain that outstanding learning opportunities are provided to ALL students. 

    Dr. Thomas looks forward to a “Meet and Greet” with staff at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year.
