ABLE PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
ABLE Program provides services for students, ages 5 through 22, with needs related to Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual Disabilities. Students that benefit from the program have needs in the areas of verbal and nonverbal communication, social interactions, sensory processing/regulation and academic progress.
The instructional focus of the program provides an adaptive learning environment which facilitates reciprocal communication and social interactions to enhance opportunities successful educational outcomes. The behavioral aspect of the program focuses on expanding the limited repertoire of communication skills, activities and interests demonstrated by the students, as well as minimizing idiosyncratic, stereotypic and non-compliant behaviors.
A low student-teacher ratio supports a highly structured, individualized and multisensory classroom environment. Services are highly integrated into the classroom and instructional environments for maximum impact on the students’ progress. The curriculum and methodologies used vary based upon student needs, resulting in an eclectic model of support at all ages. Students from 18-22 benefit from transition supports and opportunities focused upon employment, leisure skills, and independent living.
