Adaptive Behavioral Learning Environment Program

ABLE Program provides services for students, ages 6 through 22, with Autism Spectrum Disorder and intellectual disabilities, which have a significant impact on verbal and nonverbal communication, social interactions, sensory processing and academic progress.  The instructional focus of the program provides an adaptive learning environment which facilitates reciprocal communicative and social interactions in order to enhance opportunities for more positive and successful educational outcomes.  The behavioral aspect of the program focuses on expanding the limited repertoire of communication skills, activities and interests demonstrated by the students, as well as minimizing the idiosyncratic, stereotypic and non-compliant behaviors. A low student-teacher ratio supports a highly structured, individualized and multi-sensory classroom environment. Related services including speech/language therapy, applied behavior analysis, occupational therapy, physical therapy and social work are all integrated into the instructional fabric of the program.  Speech/language therapy, in particular, is provided all day in each classroom in order to maximize language development, increase use of technology and visual cueing systems, and directly tie language services to academics.  ABLE uses a variety of research-based instructional methodologies based on the needs of each student.
